"Charting Growth"
The fun trend of pictures within pictures is in full swing.
The pinterest pic of the second graders first day of school, holding a large framed picture of herself taken the first day of 1st grade is too cute... The idea is to see the noticeable difference from one year to the next; or as I like to call these, "charting growth" shots.
Super fun idea for scrapbookers!!
As a photographer it was neat to remember the day we took this framed image of Colt during his newborn session. I'm sure his Momma can relate that it literally feels like it was yesterday and here we are over a year later!
This is proof in a picture that our children grow way too quickly!
This idea is simple and very inexpensive.
In this case, we obviously went with the cowboy theme based around the hat..
We opted for a nearby field that is one of my go-to locations that happened to have a rustic wooden fence. I thought this would be fitting in keeping with the theme.
If at all possible, try to use one or more of the same props from the original image.
In this case the cowboy hat is the same... but any part of an outfit, blanket, hat, location etc etc you get the point. This ties the two images, your eyes are seeing, together... hopefully that makes sense.
It's always fun to capture a still frame with a smile like the above shot, but don't stress that too bad. Just keep snapping... the next couple of images show how fun these can be just letting the child be natural and do their own thing.
In fact, my favorite one is this next one in black and white. It's just a simple picture of him deciding if he wants to leave the hat on or not, but the still frame and placement is priceless.
Not sure if you edit your work or not, but for those that do...
A lot of times if I'm going through images and run across one where the subject is not looking directly at the camera, those are the first ones I will view in black and white.
There is something timeless about a black and white image where there is no direct eye contact to the lens. The eye is immediately drawn to the facial expression or mood of the setting and not focused on the features of the face. Do you agree?
As usual, this is a general and somewhat vague idea for some DIY photo fun.
You can literally use the framed pictures already up in your home for this idea, and just work with what you have or you could plan something in advance.
There are soooo many things you could do with this idea.
